Who TF Do You Think You Are?

"What we believe about ourselves has a way of coming true-

The good and the bad."

Happy Friday my fellow Thriving Artist.

It's a beautiful day.

I write to you as I stare out of the window,

watching The Sun's rays kiss the surface of the lovely lake before me,

And the palm trees dancing in the breeze seem to be enjoying life just as much as I.

This serene scenery has me contemplating how far I've come,

a reminder of how I got here.

I created this life in my mind before I could actually see it with my eyes.

Being an artist is amazing.

But contrary to popular belief no one is actually born an artist.

You become an artist through your beliefs about yourself.

Your beliefs about yourself then form the habits of a starving artist,

or a thriving one.

Today we will be diving into the first rule of The New Renaissance:

The Starving Artist believes you must be born an artist. The Thriving Artist knows you must become one.

This is part 2 of the current Read With Me series:

"Real Artists Don't Starve: Timeless Strategies for Thriving in the new Creative Age" By Jeff Goins

If you missed part 1 you can access it here.

On Monday I told you about how Michelangelo,

the famous artist of the High Renaissance,

was discovered to be insanely wealthy.

Let me tell you about how he did it.

All his life, Michelangelo was told that he was born into a noble family.

How would your self-image be different if you were a confirmed descendant of royalty?

You would probably move around town like you were the shit,

and that's exactly how Michelangelo moved.

Michelangelo's belief in his royal blood guided his understanding of himself, and fueled his ambition to become a successful artist.

Wherever he went, he never hid the fact that he was important.

He never concealed his status of the decedent of royalty, eager to restore his family name to honor.

This belief was fundamental to the way he looked at life and his art.

If someone holds themselves to this high of a standard, there is no other option but to master your craft(s)

(imagine being royalty and being trash at what you do)

Michelangelo grew up believing he was connected to one of the most important families in Europe, and everyone around him believed the same thing.

The power of this belief informed his entire persona and not only did it influence the way people treated him, it influenced how skillful of an artist he became.

It is no wonder he cemented himself in history.

But get this......

IT WASN'T TRUE

Years later historians discovered that Michelangelo was indeed NOT at all from noble lineage.

He wasn't royalty.

It was all cap....

but not really because he actually believed it.

Michelangelo was not born an artist,

no one is,

he became one (an extremely successful one) with the power of belief.

And his belief wasn't even true! Until it was.

You see,

"What we believe about ourselves has a way of coming true-

The good and the bad."

Although he was not a descendant of a royal family when he believed it,

he believed it so hard that he became prosperous enough to create the start of a royal lineage.

So my question to you is

WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?

Really think about that and pay close attention to your self image.

Because it's either building you up, or destroying you and your ability to thrive.

To be honest,

If I told you some of the things I believe about myself,

you'd probably think I was an egocentric maniac.

You'd probably ask me "WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?"

but hey, it's my belief and the universe continues to confirm.

And even when it doesn't, I still believe it cause it's the truth.

The beautiful thing about life is you get to choose what you believe.

And since you can choose what you believe, you can make creating the life of your dreams inevitable.
