You're Doing the Wrong Thing

Greetings Fellow Artist,

Hate to break it to you, but if you're are not passionate about being the best at what you do, you're probably doing the wrong thing.

You've probably noticed that I speak about mastery a TON.

It's not because I believe I've reached it.

I always talk about mastery for a few reasons:

It's Cool as Fuck...

Come on, we all know it is most exciting to watch the best of the best perform.

This is why the NBA finals, and the Super Bowl get much more viewership than the regular season.

This is why Drake and Beyonce pack out arenas with millions of people, yet only 12 people came to your tuba recital.

We love the idea of "talent", so when activities are done at an extremely high level, people tune in.

Yes because it's cool and entertaining, but I also believe people tune in because it is this level of performance that reminds humanity that there is still more room to evolve.

Mastery is the Primary Driver for Human Evolution...

In last week's article I talked about how I believe humans would have gone extinct if it weren't for our consciousness, intellect, and creativity.

These three mental traits is what has led to us mastering our environment,

but if humans just called it quits after discovering fire, we probably would have lasted a bit longer, but we still would have eventually went extinct lol.

It took masters to really get creative and push the boundaries of what fire and heat can actually do.

And it is in the process of pushing these boundaries that humans evolved mentally too.

The Process of Pursuing Mastery is a Vehicle to Enlightenment

Pushing your limits, whether mental or physical is a catalyst for growth

(Think weight training making you stronger).

Pushing your limits creates agitation, discomfort, adversity,

and I'm not sure why it works this way but these uncomfortable feelings trigger growth in our minds as well as our bodies.

The Great Dr. Andrew Huberman once pointed out that neuroplasticity (the brain's ability to change),

cannot be triggered without mental discomfort, ie. failing, getting things wrong, and not knowing.

The process of pursuing mastery has us in a constant state of active neuroplasticity which facilitates our growth mentally and spiritually. And once we grow in those areas we then understand the ultimate reason I praise the pursuit of mastery...

To Better Serve Others, You Must be a Master

The life most of us currently live, in all of its glory and connivence,

was only made possible because of masters.

The master software engineers who created the internet and all of it's applications,

the engineers who created your car that works most of the time,

and the fact that all you have to do to get food is go to the grocery store,

all these conveniences are past and present masters at work.

Now you must go pay it forward, by becoming one in your field.

And remember:

If you're are not passionate about being the best at what you do, you're probably doing the wrong thing...

So find the thing and do it to the best of your ability...

You feel weak. You feel drained. You've reached your peak. You question the game. You thought it'd be fun, but it's not. because you got caught, trying to run, too fast. What a blast this was in the beginning, with endless energy and visions of winning. You climbed with joy and ran and leaped, But now you've reached a hill too steep. A hill too steep to climb. Your eyes and mind can't see the top, you've got lacerations from all the rocks, but if you let go now you'll drop, this is harder...

2024 is almost gone forever The completion point of days, weeks, months, and years serve as traffic lights for us to slow down, stop, and reflect before we continue driving down the streets of destiny. You made some new promises to yourself at the start of this year. Have you kept those promises? Are you still as focused as you were in January? To be honest, I used to despise New Years resolutions. They felt very ritualistic, yet most of the time they hold little weight. Most people do all...
